Step Onto Our Beautifully Soft 8 x 12 Area Rugs
8 x 12 is a good, large rug; however, it’s not so large that it doesn’t work well in more modestly sized rooms. For example, it’s a great option for bedrooms, where it will fit under a Queen sized bed, or provide a cozy floor covering for a twin bedded room. It’s also a popular size of rug for drawing together the key pieces of furniture in a living room. The 8 x 12 rug is a pleasingly proportioned rug, and our customers choose it for this reason.
As well as looking great, a hand-knotted rug has to feel good too! Nothing beats that feeling of stepping out of a warm bed in the morning, and your feet encounter soft, warm wool rather than cold, hard floor boards. Everybody’s toes love a good quality rug!
We source our wool from the sheep farms of spectacular New Zealand, where the happy sheep are carefully tended, and their wool is treated delicately. Because we buy the wool in its pure, unprocessed state, it’s softer than yarn that’s undergone more procedures. Wool is also a practical choice: it’s hardwearing, a pleasure to work with, and comes from a renewable source. Thanks to the skills of our weavers and the great care they take during every stage of the process, our hand-knotted woolen rugs are a joy to step onto.
Silk Woven 8 x 12 Rugs
However, if you’re looking for something really special, some area rugs are woven from silk. As you would imagine, silk gives the rug a stunning sheen and a delicate, yielding texture. They typically have a very high knots-per-square-inch count, so have even more time put into their manufacture than hand-knotted wool rugs do. There is also the question of the source of the fabric: it takes a lot of silkworm larva to create an 8 x 10 rug. Because of this, silk rugs can attract a pretty high price tag.
An excellent compromise is an area rug that combines the two yarns, a wool-silk mix. Have a look in our collection for these lovely rugs, which really do merge the best of both worlds. The 70-30 wool-silk blended rugs have the robust qualities of wool and the shine of silk. Both are soft, resulting in rugs that your bare feet will love.
Their knot count can be as high as 81 knots per square inch, and their detailed designs are simply exquisite. However, thanks to the addition of wool, you get the luxurious decadence of a silk rug without the prohibitive cost; and if you like to know the provenance of your materials, rest assured that we use bamboo silk rather than threads from larvae.
If this sounds like the perfect solution, look out for wool and silk combination oriental rugs, including in our 8 x 12 range.
