Classically Versatile Sootri Rug Designs
Their appeal lies in their intricate designs, which comprise subtle yet lively patterns of paisleys, medallions, foliage and other architectural-style motifs. An antique Sootri rug can have up to 20 vivid colors, often from a rich, warm palette of reds, golds and muted browns. Although their designs have been broadly similar for centuries, their understated shades and graceful patterns have tremendous appeal for today’s interiors.
An antique Sootri rug is equally at home in a classic design scheme or adding texture to a contemporary room. If you like your floor coverings to be both traditional and timeless, these lovingly-made, hand-knotted area rugs are the perfect choice.
Sootri Rugs Are Soft, But Surprisingly Hardwearing
Sootri rugs have been produced in Pakistan’s famous rug center, Lahore, for generations. Hand-knotted by our skilled artisans, these elegant rugs combine luxurious underfoot softness with practical hard-wearing qualities.
The Sootri weave produces extremely robust rugs. This weave has two wefts, with the second inserted between every two rows of knots in a Z-shaped pattern. With a knotting density of up to 100 knots, the resulting rug is sturdy and of exceptional quality. The Sootri knotting technique also allows our craftspeople to weave those curling, natural designs, as the lines remain the same thickness even when they’re curving, without that “stepped” look.
Our artisans use the finest wool from New Zealand, which becomes yarn of silk-like delicacy. Surprisingly, the fineness of the wool is what makes Sootri rugs so robust, as the finer the yarn, the higher the knot count. This also enables RugKnots’ weavers to create those sought-after intricate designs that our customers love.
