The History of Pak Persian Rugs
Artisans have been weaving rugs and carpets in the former Indus Valley region of Pakistan (and beyond) since the 11th century – and the practice reached its nadir in the 16th century under the rule of the Mughal Dynasty – when carpet designs became informed by Mughal architecture and their manufacture spread throughout the whole region to Afghanistan and India.
Classic carpets and rugs made during this period have informed all antique designs that have come since then – and are particularly renowned for the high knot densities of their construction (Persian knots are called ‘Senneh’) – which provide extra strength, softness and design clarity.
Adding a touch of Persian grandeur to any contemporary space, choosing a Pak rug from RugKnots makes a statement that you not only have a discerning eye for design excellence – but also appreciate the great value for money, top quality raw materials and highest standards of artisan skill that go into every one of our fine rugs and carpets.
