FAQ's

I’m wondering how to clean a shag rug?

A lot of people ask us how to vacumm a shag rug, so we decided to write a blog post about the best 5 Ways To Keep Your Shag Rugs Looking New! If you have a wool shag rug, read our blog post, Best Kept Secrets to Cleaning Wool Shag Rugs, to find even more details about cleaning wool shag rugs. Pay special attention to our section that talks about how to vacumm a shag rug! Follow the steps necessary in each blog, and your soft shag rug should be as good as new!

What is the softest rug material?

We argue that our 100% New Zealand Wool is the softest material for rugs! We did a lot of research about where to source our wool for our rugs and we found that New Zealand has the most ethically treated sheep. The wool that we use for our rugs has been hand sheared from healthy, happy sheep and is then handspun to create the best wool rugs. Our wool shag rugs are particularly soft because they are high pile rugs! Overall, quality wool and handmade area rugs are a duo that can't be stopped!

Do shag rugs shed?

At RugKnots, we proudly claim the fact that our 100% Wool Shag Rugs do not shed. Any shag rugs made with synthetic, though, are almost always prone to error, as they are machine made, and machines are more likely to cause errors than someone who has made a hand knotted wool rug. In fact, we even conducted an experiement on synthetic shag rugs versus wool shag rugs just to help our customers choose the right rug when shopping. If you're finding that your synthetic shag rug is shedding, you should look into buying a wool shag rug! Our hand knotted wool shag rugs do not shed even the tinest bit- gaurenteed or your money back!

What is a wool shag rug?

A wool shag rug is made from wool that has been sheared from a sheep. Many sheep are treated unethically in the rug industry, but we are extremely proud to say that our sheep are hand sheared only when neccessary for their health. Our wool is then hand spun to create a thread of wool that can then be hand knotted onto a canvas to make a rug. Our wool shag rugs are backed by a cotton canvas, to create an even softer rug for your feet!
